Tabbing Systems: A Buying Guide
Folded self-mailers and booklets need to be sealed with tabs (wafer seals) before they go in the mail. A tabber applies them automatically, and many models also apply stamps or labels.
The quick rule: match the material size and thickness to your mail pieces and the tabs per piece to your postal requirements, then check whether you need stamp affixing.
What to look for
- Tabbing speed. Usually rated for one tab per piece; two or three tabs per piece run slower.
- Tabs per piece. How many tabs the machine applies in one pass, and on which edges.
- Stamp and label applying. Some tabbers also apply roll postage stamps or address labels.
- Material size and thickness. The largest and thickest piece the machine takes.
- Feeder. Integrated feeders suit stand-alone use; in-line models pair with a feeder or address printer.
- Duty cycle. The monthly volume the maker designs the machine for.
Models in the catalog
The tabbing systems catalog lists 7 current models with manufacturer specifications, sources and photos: Formax (2) · Rena (5). Brands are listed alphabetically.
We don't name a “best” model or rank brands. The right machine depends on your volume, stock and space, so filter the catalog on the specs above. We don't list prices; these machines are mostly sold through authorized dealers.
