Laminators: A Buying Guide
A laminator seals a document inside clear plastic film with heat and pressure, so signs, menus, ID cards and photos stay clean and stiff. Pouch laminators take one pre-cut pouch at a time; roll-fed machines laminate from film rolls.
The quick rule: match the maximum width to your largest item, then check the pouch thickness you use and the speed you need.
What to look for
- Maximum width. The widest pouch or sheet the rollers take. 9" handles letter size; 13" handles letter and legal; 18"+ handles posters.
- Pouch thickness. Measured in mil (thousandths of an inch). 3 and 5 mil are common; thicker pouches need a machine rated for them.
- Rollers. More rollers give more even heat and pressure. Cooling rollers flatten the item as it exits.
- Speed. Inches per minute at the maker's stated setting; thick pouches run slower.
- Warm-up. Minutes from switch-on to ready.
- Controls. Variable temperature and speed, cold laminating and memory settings help with mixed jobs.
Models in the catalog
The laminators catalog lists 13 current models with manufacturer specifications, sources and photos: Akiles (8) · Formax (4) · MBM (1). Brands are listed alphabetically.
We don't name a “best” model or rank brands. The right machine depends on your volume, stock and space, so filter the catalog on the specs above. We don't list prices; most of these machines are sold through authorized dealers.
